Accident and Incident Investigation

The accurate and detailed investigation of accidents and incidents is essential to the health and well-being of all workers at a workplace. Such an investigation can help to ascertain the cause of an accident, incident or near miss and help to prevent a recurrence. This program will introduce you to the accident and incident investigation process by discussing the following important topics:

AODA - Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities

NORCAT's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act program explains the purpose and scope of the Act, discusses the responsibilities of people and organizations under the Act, and lists recommended principles and relevant information for communicating and interacting with people with disabilities.

Asbestos Awareness

The Asbestos Awareness course is intended for anyone who may come across asbestos in their normal line of work, or anyone who works in a facility where asbestos may be present. It is intended to increase worker knowledge regarding asbestos, and to reduce the hazard of accidental exposure.

Chemical Hazards

The Chemical Hazards course will give users an understanding of basic chemical principles and terms, the hazards associated with the various broad classes of compounds, and the dangers of inappropriate storage and mixing of incompatible materials.

Confined Space Awareness

This program covers the general information workers must know to work near or in a confined space. NOTE: It is an awareness program only.
Construction Supervisor

Managing and leading is hard. NORCAT's Construction Supervisor training program is designed to build strong and competent supervisors that will lead by example, drive regulatory compliance, enhance productivity, and create a healthy and safe work environment - all day, every day.

The Construction Supervisor program is comprised of the following 6 modules:

Drugs & Alcohol in the Workplace

Recommended for Employees.

Drop in productivity, dependency and workplace injuries and fatalities can all be a results of a worker under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Through a series of group discussions, employees will gain an understanding of the dangerous effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace and on coworkers, the importance of workplace policies and who to seek in case of emergency.

Fall Protection Awareness

This program covers the dangers of working at heights, as well as hazard elimination, hazard prevention, fall arrest, and administration of the program.
First Aid - Standard First Aid Level A & C (AED/CPR)

Standard First Aid Level A & C (AED/CPR) is a comprehensive two-day course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. Includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. Meets federal and a variety of provincial/territorial regulations for Standard First Aid and CPR. Exceeds competitors' standards by including injury prevention content, CPR and AED.

Joint Health & Safety Committee Certification pt 1

NORCAT is pleased to offer the MOL-approved JHSC Certification Training Program: Part One. At workplaces where a JHSC is required, at least one JHSC member representing the employer and one member representing workers must be certified by the Chief Prevention Officer. Certified members play an essential role in the Internal Responsibility System (IRS) for the occupational health and safety of Ontario workplaces.

This 3-day training program is generic to all workplaces that require both employer and worker certified members, regardless of workplace sector.

Finalize your certification process by successfully completing NORCAT's CPO-Approved Joint Health and Safety Certification Training - Part Two. This 2-day course reviews Part One of the JHSC Certification Training and then applies you knowledge and understanding of the RACE methodology (Recognition, Assessment, Control and Evaluation) to hazards that are relevant to your workplace.

Occupational Health and Safety for Workers

The Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act is designated to protect workers against health and safety hazards on the job by spelling out the rights and responsibilities of the various parties. This program was developed to give workers an understanding of these rights and responsibilities, and to explain the three basic rights afforded each worker under the OHSA.

Recognizing Someone Under the Influence and What To Do

Recommended for supervisors.

Learn what affects your worker's attitude and behaviors. Understand the difference between substance abuse and dependency and how to approach a worker you suspect may be under the influence. This program will encourage you to take a look at your enforcement policies, documentation procedures and provide you with tools on how to confront an employee.

Respiratory Protection Awareness

The inhalation of toxic materials is perhaps the greatest risk and greatest concern of any worker. That is why it is essential that a person's respiratory system be protected from these chemicals.

This program discusses:

  • The two main types of respirators.
  • Things to look for when performing an inspection.
  • Fit-testing and fit-checks.
  • Physiological and psychological limitations of wearing a respirator
  • Types of filters and cartridges.
  • Warning properties.
  • Respirator cleaning, disinfection and storage.
Safe Chainsaw Handling & Maintenance

This half-day program is designed for those who do not fell trees but use a saw on occasion to cut timber or trim the end of a log. This course begins in the classroom and then practical experience is gained by exercising the techniques and procedures in a cutting environment.

Train the Trainer

The Train the Trainer course is based on 3 days. The first session involves instruction in adult-centered teaching methods and principles of learning. Eighty percent of the course consists of the participants engaging in lesson planning, presentation/classroom delivery, the emphasis being on skills transfer, evaluations and primarily program development. The trainer candidate should also be a person of integrity with leadership qualities in his/her area of expertise but above all they must want to do the job, which is demanding. Trainers must have the ability to transfer skills and knowledge to those in their charge and accept full responsibility for their performance while they are in their charge as legal liabilities.

WHMIS

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System Please select a module to begin your WHMIS training or click one of the Pre-Tests. To pass a Pre-Test, you must get a score of 100%. Otherwise, you will be required to go through the Module content and pass a final test.
Working At Heights

NORCAT's CPO Approved Working at Heights training program is designed to provide instruction to any worker who is regularly, or on occasion, assigned work that may require working at heights criteria whereby fall arrest protection equipment and safeguards are required to be implemented.

Working at Heights - Refresher

NORCAT is pleased to offer Working at Heights Refresher training. In order for workers to maintain their validity of training, workers must successfully complete refresher training within 3 years of previous Working at Heights training. This Refresher program will reinforce key learning outcomes for workers and will also keep learners up-to-date on any legislative, regulatory or equipment changes which may impact working at heights in construction.

Upon successful completion each student will receive a NORCAT Certification Card, registration with the MOL and an MOL certification card (by mail) Proof of prior, Ministry certified Working at Heights certification is an absolute requirement, preferably prior to attendance, or on day of course.
