Pre-requisites:
  • To be registered in Program # 770141 you must have:
  • A current, standard level WSIB approved first aid certificate.
  • As a minimum, MTCU accreditation in the mandatory modules from the appropriate common core program 770010, 770130, 770150, 770210 or 770225.
  • Meet the requirements for 'competent person' as defined in the OHSA legislation.


It is the candidate's responsibility to inform the local Apprenticeship Client Services office of a change of name, address or transfer to a new employer and provide the required documents for registration. To be accredited in the Generic Supervisor Common Core Program, the employee must have demonstrated competency in each of the above 770141 Program Modules. All candidates must be employed by a sponsor employer WITH APPROVED MTCU SIGNING AUTHORITY.

Elevated Work Platform

NORCAT’s Elevated Work Platforms training program is designed to promote the inspection, safe use and understanding of hazards associated with elevated work platforms. This program is applicable to a variety of equipment including scissor lifts, telescopic booms, and articulating booms.

This comprehensive program is delivered in two parts in order to provide the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on training to facilitate compliance for workers using aerial lift equipment, and includes an assessment of both.

Prerequisites:
Valid Working at Heights Certificate, or Fall-Arrest Certificate depending on field/job requirements

Modules include:

  • Legislation and regulations
  • Responsibilities (employer/supervisor/operator)
  • Operator's manual and familiarization with your EWP (types and uses)
  • Pre-operational checks, testing controls
  • Workplace inspection, and hazards associated with use
  • Fall protection requirements
  • Rescue plan
  • Refuelling/recharging



Equipment Required:
NORCAT Offices: Safety Footwear, Hard Hat.

On-Site: PPE Per Clients H&S Policies, and EWP to be Certified on.

After Training:

Standard First Aid Level A & C (AED/CPR) BLENDED is a viable option for training in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Designed for people who need the training, but may not be able to commit to two full days back to back. Participants complete an online training program covering much of the theoretical knowledge for First Aid and CPR, prior to attending a one-day in-person session for the training and assessment of the practical skills. Also an excellent option for experienced First Aiders in need of RECERTIFICATION. Includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. Meets federal and a variety of provincial/territorial regulations for Standard First Aid and CPR. Exceeds competitors' standards by including injury prevention content, CPR and AED.

The blended class is a 1-day practical assessment, following successful completion of the online portion prior to attending in-class.

This 2-day, 12-module program will teach the skills required to know the strength and capabilities of many tools, materials and devices that are available for rigging work. The day 3 emphasis will be on non-routine lifts up to critical lifts. Trainees will be given different scenarios and follow a process to determine which category the lift falls under and who to get involved in the lift as well as in-depth categorizing and planning of lifts in a formal way.

Each item has been designed and developed to serve a specific purpose. Recognizing its capabilities and limitations not only improves efficiency but minimizes hazards and helps prevent accidents.

Joint Health & Safety Committee Certification pt 1

NORCAT is pleased to offer the MLITSD's CPO-approved JHSC Certification Training Program: Part One. At workplaces where a JHSC is required, at least one JHSC member representing the employer and one member representing workers must be certified by the Chief Prevention Officer. Certified members play an essential role in the Internal Responsibility System (IRS) for the occupational health and safety of Ontario workplaces.

This 3-day training program is generic to all workplaces that require both employer and worker certified members, regardless of workplace sector.

Finalize your certification process by successfully completing NORCAT's CPO-Approved Joint Health and Safety Certification Training - Part Two. This 2-day course reviews Part One of the JHSC Certification Training and then applies you knowledge and understanding of the RACE methodology (Recognition, Assessment, Control and Evaluation) to hazards that are relevant to your workplace.




Prerequisite: Part Two must be completed within 12 months of completing Part One.

NORCAT's OHS Construction Leadership for Employers training program is offered to employers and is customizable to reference employer's current OHS management system.


The OHS Construction Leadership for Employers training program is comprised of the following 4 modules:

  • Legislation - Act and Regulations, and company's OHS program
  • Hazard identification
  • Incident Management -Preparing for Emergencies
  • OHS Leadership and Effective Communication


After Training: The employer is responsible to continue to educate the worker in company/site-specific processes, procedures, and responsibilities. This program is also available in distance learning format using Zoom. Please call for details.

Recognizing Someone Under the Influence and What To Do

Recommended for supervisors.

Learn what affects your worker’s attitude and behaviors. Understand the difference between substance abuse and dependency and how to approach a worker you suspect may be under the influence. This program will encourage you to take a look at your enforcement policies, documentation procedures and provide you with tools on how to confront an employee.

Respirator Fit Test

NORCAT’s half-face mask quantitative fit testing meets CSA Standard Z94.4 and is therefore recognized by Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations and Vale. NORCAT’s Testing Agents are trained in the regulations pertaining to this program and are competent in selection, use and care of respirators. The fit test is approximately 20 minutes long.

Fit Testing is provided between 8:00am and 3:00pm.

You MUST be clean shaven to be fit tested.

Respiratory Protection Awareness

The inhalation of toxic materials is perhaps the greatest risk and greatest concern of any worker. That is why it is essential that a person's respiratory system be protected from these chemicals.

Suspended Access Equipment/Swingstage Installer

Providing the theory and practical training for the installation and inspection of a suspended work platform system. It is designed to meet the training requirements outlined in the current Construction Projects regulation (O. Reg. 213/91, s. 138.1 (3)).


Trainees will be instructed in the reading and use a roof plan and work plan, assemble a suspended work platform system in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, and inspect the assembled system.

Suspended Access Equipment/Swingstage User

Providing the theory and practical training for the safe operation of a suspended work platform system. It is designed to meet the training requirements outlined in the current Construction Projects regulation (O. Reg. 213/91, s. 138 (2))


Trainees will be instructed in the requirements for roof plans and work plans, as well as the two separate systems of support when working from a suspended work platform: (1) the fall arrest system and (2) the suspended work platform system. Instruction and direction in the daily inspection and safe use of the fall arrest system and suspended work platform system.

Traffic Control Book 7 Training

NORCAT’s Traffic Control OTM Book 7 (2022 edition) Training is ideal for individuals working in temporary conditions on Ontario roads and highways.


This full-day program prepares workers to understand the Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 and apply the traffic control layouts to safely manage traffic while performing work in and around Ontario roads and highways.

By taking this program, workers will be able to develop effective traffic control plans to ensure workers and motorists are protected.

This program follows the Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 2022 edition and covers the following topics:

Train the Trainer

The Train the Trainer course is based on 3 days. The first session involves instruction in adult-centered teaching methods and principles of learning. Eighty percent of the course consists of the participants engaging in lesson planning, presentation/classroom delivery, the emphasis being on skills transfer, evaluations and primarily program development. The trainer candidate should also be a person of integrity with leadership qualities in his/her area of expertise but above all they must want to do the job, which is demanding. Trainers must have the ability to transfer skills and knowledge to those in their charge and accept full responsibility for their performance while they are in their charge as legal liabilities. Working at Heights - Refresher

NORCAT is pleased to offer Working at Heights Refresher training. In order for workers to maintain their validity of training, workers must successfully complete refresher training within 3 years of previous Working at Heights training. This Refresher program will reinforce key learning outcomes for workers and will also keep learners up-to-date on any legislative, regulatory or equipment changes which may impact working at heights in construction.

Upon successful completion, each student will receive a NORCAT Certification Card, registration with the MLITSD and an MLITSD certification card (by mail). Proof of prior CPO-approved Working at Heights certification is an absolute requirement., preferable prior to attendance, or on the day of the course.
