Working at Heights Training Overview

NORCAT’s roster of experienced trainers provide incomparable classroom experiences that prepare workers with the knowledge they need to keep themselves and their team safe on the job. Trainees will participate in practical, hands-on instruction including how to recognize fall hazards and how to correctly use fall protection equipment, and theoretical components, including how to cultivate a strong safety culture to eliminate injuries and fatalities in the workplace.

How to Register

  • Choose preferred training date and the number of people you are signing up in the dropdown menu
  • Fill in the personal information form, including Company Info (if applicable) and method of payment (note: payment will not be processed until date of training)
  • Once processed, you will receive an email including confirmation of your booking
  • Upon completion of the training, trainees will be issued an approved Ontario Ministry of Labour certificate showing proof of training
  • All safety equipment is provided; however, trainees are welcome to bring their own safety harness
  • No charge cancellation with 24 hours notice – if you cannot attend your scheduled training, contact us at least 24 hours ahead of your scheduled class or a non-attendance fee will be charged

Theory Modules:

  • Rights and responsibilities under the OHSA
  • General hazard recognition
  • Hierarchy of controls
  • Safety procedures for warning mentions and physical barriers
  • Safety procedures for ladders and similar equipment
  • Introduction to personal fall protection equipment

Practical Modules:

  • Barriers and safety nets
  • Personal fall protection equipment
  • Anchor points
  • Work positional systems, work access and platforms
  • Rescue planning

Working at Heights Frequently Asked Questions

How long does my Working at Heights certification last?

Working at Heights certification in Ontario valid for three years. Before your certificate expires, you can participate in a Working at Heights refresher course that is valid for an additional three years.

Is Working at Heights offered online?

NORCAT does not offer Working at Heights online.

Will you travel to my worksite to provide training?

Who needs Working at Heights training?

In Ontario, you need to take Working at Heights training if you work on a construction project and are required to use any of the following methods of fall protection:

  • travel restraint system
  • fall restricting system
  • fall arrest system
  • safety net
  • work belt
  • safety belt

Working at Heights

The Working at Heights full-day program provides consistent quality training for workers required to work at heights. The curriculum and delivery is comprised of both theory and practical hands-on instruction under the direction of a qualified instructor. The theory and practical modules are compulsory for workers who use travel restraint systems, fall restricting systems, fall arrest protection systems or safety nets. Training is valid for 3 years.

Course Running Time: 7:30am - 3:00pm

Working at Heights Refresher

In order for workers to maintain their validity of training, workers must successfully complete refresher training within 3 years of previous Working at Heights training. This Refresher program will reinforce key learning outcomes for workers and will also keep learners up-to-date on any legislative, regulatory or equipment changes which may impact working at heights in construction.
